Edward Willson

Edward Willson is an abstract stone carver from Bermagui on the NSW Far South Coast. Willson works predominantly in the local Bega Valley granite. He is finding the durability and extreme strength of granite the perfect medium to carve his thought-provoking multi-award-winning sculptures. 

 

Willson takes his inspirations from the widest possible range of topics from the deepest space to the deep ocean. He often refers in his art to human nature, science and the complexity of life on Earth. 

 

Fluidity and movement are always playing a major role in this subtractive form of sculpture. Willson mastered the art of stone bending.  

 

Willson studied at COFA Sydney, won a residency at the ANU Sculpture School, and has been a recipient of various awards and exhibited in London, Berlin, and many Australian locations. Recently, Willson has been chosen to exhibit at the Montalto Sculpture Prize at the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
